2018 Highlights & Season’s Greetings

What a year 2018 has been for the PrintoCent Industry Cluster, especially in Structural Electronics and in a wider scope of Printed Intelligence!

A cavalcade of so many positive elements, starting from PRINSE`18, where the global IMSE messenger TactoTek brought on stage the automotive industry in a best ever session and just before Christmas announced their licensing agreement with FAURECIA. Tactotek and VTT claimed the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations’ (EARTO) Innovation Award in the Impact Delivered category. Moreover, Canatu with its elegantly designed futuristic looking cockpit that combines advanced technology won Gold in German Design Awards 2019.

Flexbright ramped up the roll-to-roll assembly line for flex foils with dozens of prototypes and their LEDfoil elements are integrated in interior lighting products and displays in laminated glass. Screentec got a new main owner Nordic Option and initiated the investments towards Roll-to-Roll manufacturing in clean room environment to be installed Q1/2019. Inkron, a leading technology company focusing on printed siloxane and nanoparticle based ink and paste products, got notable boost from the partnership with NAGASE.

Business growth by Goodwiller is clearly seen with the delivered hundreds of thousands test stripes at 2000 sales points in Finland, now also aiming at export markets. Iscent announced the most recent million level sale to Germany in the summer of 2018. MoveSole smart insoles have been delivered to professionals in Finland and abroad, and is moving towards scale up of manufacturing volumes. New Cable Corporation got first deals on Shielded Flat Flexible Cables saving weight approximately 60-70% compared to the traditional round ones.

These are the first steps in industrialization, good signs from customers and end users to accept new light-in-weight, space effective and number of parts minimising solutions. This will definitely give food for thought for designers to generate new opportunities to differentiate. I think that there will be a solid path of years to come to integrate the structural electronics to all structures we can imagine!

Do not get too exhausted as this is not a sprint but a marathon! Let`s continue the cooperative spirit in PrintoCent 2019-2021 programme and stay tuned for more excellent news!

Wishing you all Happy Holidays and New Year!
