PrintoCent10 project that has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund and lead by VTT with Oulu University of Applied Sciences and University of Oulu, has gotten an excellent start. The project was set up to activate companies within the field of printed intelligence and to manufacture rapid tests as well as to pilot them with real use cases. PrintoCent has a quest to inspire, educate and create opportunities around printed intelligence and electronics. Besides ground breaking innovations, printed intelligence also means increased business and the latest estimation is that there will be well over 1.000 new industrial jobs around electronics production in Finland by 2020.
In addition to company activation, PrintoCent10 project tasks include rapid diagnostics test development and sweat sample collection methods and different analytics from sweat samples like nucleic acid and sweat biomarkers. The project aims to raise international recognition of printed intelligence while attracting new companies to Oulu and enhancing the cooperation with the local companies too. The project will improve business opportunities so that industrial actors for rapid tests, reader devices, cloud services and analysis fields are born. In addition, the manufacturing of a CRP rapid test and piloting it in a real health care environment is one of the project targets. Another one is the measurement of wellbeing and health biomarkers form sweat using specific sweat collectors and piloting them together with partners from the sports field.
The project started in 1.9.2017 and it was granted research and development funds 1.17 M€ for the duration of 30 months.
